SAPEC‘s Laguna Media Processor now with MPEG-H Audio Support

Fraunhofer IIS, primary developer of the MPEG-H Audio system, and SAPEC, a developer of devices and solutions for high-quality TV signal transport, deliver personalized, immersive sound for live broadcast.

The Laguna Media Processor (LMP) is a multichannel platform developed for video contribution and distribution using MPEG-2, H.264 or HEVC over IP or DTT or satellite networks. Each channel can be configured independently as encoder or decoder according to the application requirements. The versatile, compact, and flexible solution can continuously adapt to the requirements of new projects with a simple reconfiguration.

With the integration of MPEG-H Audio into the LMP, broadcasters can now provide immersive sound that can be personalized via existing DVB and ISDB-Tb broadcast infrastructures. This facilitates the access to the most advanced audio system on the market for content providers and their audiences. With native support for ISDB One-Seg delivery to mobile devices and MPEG-H Audio, the LMP is now ready to empower the TV 2.5 deployment in Brazil, where an intermediate step facilitates the changeover to the future-proof TV 3.0 infrastructure.

“Integrating MPEG-H Audio into the Laguna Media Processor helps speed up the pace of the MPEG-H Audio adoption,“ explains Adrian Murtaza, Senior Manager, Technology and Standards at Fraunhofer IIS. “We are thrilled to join forces with SAPEC to bring new advanced personalization features into Spanish households and contribute to UHD Spain’s endeavor to establish Ultra High Definition in Spain.”

“At SAPEC, we believe in a world where technological obstacles to create and provide content quality no longer exist.” says Carmen Piña, LATAM Business Development Manager at SAPEC. “With the integration of MPEG-H Audio into the Laguna Media Processor, we now enable broadcasters to deliver personalized and immersive sound in Europe and South America.”

Demonstrations of MPEG-H Audio encoding with the SAPEC LMP will be available at Fraunhofer’s NAB booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC, Central Hall, booth #C3529) and at the SAPEC booth (LVCC, West Hall, booth #W4045).
