Starwaves debuted the full-featured dual-standard version of its popular SoftRadio App for DRM & DAB+ at IBC 2025.
STARWAVES released the DRM-DAB+ dual-standard version of its popular SoftRadio App for Android. This unique solution enables full-featured reception of both digital radio standards in a single app. The solution is ideal for markets where DRM and DAB+ coexist, such as South Africa, Indonesia, and Australia. It also benefits listeners in Europe who want access to both local DAB+ services and international DRM broadcasts as provided, for instance, by Radio Romania International.
The app aims at enabling access to radio services for everybody and relies on technology developed by Fraunhofer IIS. Just like the existing DRM-only version, this app version supports DRM in all broadcast bands including the AM bands (LW, MW, SW) as well as the VHF Bands I, II (FM-Band) and III – depending on the capabilities of the USB-attached tuner dongle. It provides listeners with access to all the essential features of the DRM digital radio standard.
Fraunhofer IIS is a significant co-developer of core digital radio technologies. This includes the innovative xHE-AAC audio codec, which provides high audio quality at lowest data rates, as well as the Journaline application, which gives radio listeners access to news, the latest sports updates, local weather forecasts, travel tips, and even radio schooling services without requiring internet access.
Discover the App at the Starwaves booth at IBC 2025, Hall 8, Booth 8.B30h.
