Deutsche Telekom Implements EVS in its LTE network, MPEG LA Launches EVS Patent Portfolio License

Customers using Deutsche Telekom’s LTE network can now experience phone calls that feel as if the other person was in the same room. The German carrier has adopted Enhanced Voice Services (EVS), the 3GPP communication codec especially designed for VoLTE services, which, under the name “HD Voice Plus,” provides an even better sound in mobile phone calls moving forward.

September 2016 is packed with tradeshows across the globe, and Fraunhofer will be there to meet you. We will kick off September with IFA in Germany followed by IBC in the Netherlands, and then we will cross the globe to stop over in China at PT/Expo before moving on to the United States for SMPTE in Hollywood and AES in Los Angeles. After a short break in October, you can also meet us at InterBEE in Japan and at the German Tonmeistertagung in Cologne. EVS reaches Europe: Vodafone Germany to start EVS service

USA, Japan and now: Germany! EVS is the audio codec of choice for Vodafone Germany’s VoLTE service. After T-Mobile USA and NTT DoCoMo, the German provider is now the third mobile network provider worldwide and the first in Europe to announce the implementation of the codec.

EVS now available in Japan: NTT DoCoMo introduces new VoLTE service

Only a few weeks after T-Mobile USA introduced EVS into its LTE voice call system, we are pleased to announce that Japan based NTT DoCoMo launched its EVS powered VoLTE service on May 19th. This is the second operator to officially proclaim their use of EVS. The first mobile phones to support NTT DoCoMo’s VoLTE service including EVS are Sony Xperia X Performance, Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and Sharp AQUOS Zeta. T-Mobile USA launches EVS service

EVS is the new 3GPP audio codec for Voice over LTE services with superior speech and audio quality co-developed by Fraunhofer IIS and is the latest upgrade to T-Mobile USA’s network. It offers substantial improvements in the quality of voice calls compared to regular or HD Voice calls. T-Mobile USA is the first operator in the world to announce the introduction of EVS in its VoLTE network. With the launch of the first EVS enabled smartphones at Mobile World Congress in February, the codec is about to change the way we all experience phone calls.
