Linear Acoustic, a brand from Telos Alliance TV Solutions Group, has launched its new AMS™ Authoring and Monitoring System. The AMS is a comprehensive solution for real-time authoring, rendering, and monitoring of personalized, immersive audio programs for the ATSC 3.0 Digital Television System. It fully supports the MPEG-H TV Audio system, an official standard in ATSC 3.0.

MPEG-H TV Audio System Now an Official Standard in ATSC 3.0

The MPEG-H TV Audio System has been confirmed as official audio standard for use in ATSC 3.0 Digital Television. The audio system, predominantly developed by Fraunhofer IIS, received approval through the final membership ballot, which ended on 3 March, 2017.

Today, February 13, is World Radio Day! What an opportunity to take a closer look at the most recent developments around the expansion of digital radio. Only last week, the EBU published its second Digital Radio Report, stating that 1206 European radio stations are currently broadcasting via DAB or DAB+, of which 369 are digital-only. This is by far not the only recent advancement in this area.

MPEG-H now Included in DVB Specification

The latest development in digital television is the leap from HD to Ultra High Definition (UHD). This brings with it with a revolution in TV sound: in the future, TV viewers will be able to not only experience 3D audio in the comfort of their own homes, it will also be possible for them to adjust the audio settings of single TV shows according to their specific preferences. To this end, the audio codec MPEG-H has been integrated into the DVB UHD standard.
