World’s 1st Terrestrial UHD TV Service With MPEG-H Audio

MPEG-H Audio offers interactivity

Experiencing the stadium sound in your own living room as if you were present at the football match is just one feature of the new MPEG-H Audio technology. Specifically developed for next generation television and streaming systems, the audio codec is now part of the Korean standard for terrestrial Ultra High Definition TV recently published by South Korean standards organization Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA). If governmental officials approve the standard in September, MPEG-H Audio will provide a completely new sound experience in the world’s first 4K TV system, which will launch in South Korea in February 2017.

Erlangen, September 29, 2015: Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS and Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) continue their dynamic partnership within the joint collaboration of International Audio Laboratories Erlangen (AudioLabs). In this unique educational and research institution, audio and multimedia technologies have been researched and developed very successfully since 2010. While the collaboration was planned to last for at least ten years, the early extension of the contract adds five more years to the partnership. This underlines the importance of this exceptional collaboration, creates planning security, and strengthens the partnership. Now, the work will continue through 2025.

MPEG-H audio system for ATSC 3.0 endorsed by Pearl, Samsung Electronics America and Sinclair Broadcast Group. PARIS (France) and ERLANGEN (Germany), August 25, 2015 – Technicolor (Euronext Paris: TCH; OTCQX: TCLRY) and Fraunhofer IIS, today announce the formation of a licensing program as part of the market introduction of the next-generation TV audio system developed by the MPEG-H Audio Alliance. The MPEG-H Audio Alliance TV System is under consideration for the ATSC 3.0 standard.
